Review from The Hindu- slant

For 42 minutes, a group of art lovers stayed mesmerised as Malavika Mohanan presented `Navashwaasam’ (new breaths) at Galilee Auditorium, Thrissur. Conceived and choreographed by her, the performance could rightly be described as dance-poetry. Malavika is a dancer, director, choreographer and a poet. A graduate in theatre from Stanford University, California, and a Bharatanatyam dancer, her multi-disciplinary background and rare sensibility towards social issues have made her creations noteworthy and `Navashwaasam’ is the latest.

Su recital de danzas solistas fue encantador: partiendo de las formas tradicionales, Malavika introduce en sus coreografías elementos contemporáneos, el uso de su propia voz y un humor fresco e inesperado.

Testimonials

“Mali is a dance and theater professional on international tour with a riveting 50-minute performance called Being Human that includes poetry, modern dance, traditional Indian dance, and audience participation. The form, based in bharatanatyam (South Indian classical dance), is influenced by traditions as varied as flamenco, West African dance, and hip-hop. The performance is followed by discussion with the audience inspired by the dance, which is often breathtaking in its unexpected depth. Trust me when I say it’s an experience well worth two hours of your time.”
